The research was authored in the journal Nature Communications. 

However, the study stated that levels of acetate are supposed to be decreased because of fiber fermentation in the gut, which links to preeclampsia. Pre-eclampsia is a condition in which there are certain insolvents found in the mother's body. These include:

  • protein in the urine and 
  • severe swelling
